Jackrabbits and The Crow: On Dwelling and Passing
An Installation by Claire Zitzow
November 12, 2010 – December 17, 2010
Opening Reception with the Artist November 12, 2010 6:00 – 9:00 PM
Jackrabbits and the Crow is a comprehensive aesthetic (and historical) investigation into the homestead constructions that occurred in Southern California’s Morongo Basin during the Small Tract Act between 1930′s and 1970′s. Much of Zitzow’s project included extended on-site explorations of these now largely abandoned structures known as ‘Jackrabbits’. Her installation at The Andrews Gallery involves a reconstitution of this structure within the gallery walls, as well as other sculptural references and pictoral representations from her field work. This exhibition, the culmination of Zitzow’s last three years as a graduate student at the University of California, San Diego, will serve as her masters thesis review.
